Spreading Love Giveaway

Today is my 24th wedding anniversary, Valentine's Day is coming up, and it is also Random Acts of Kindness Week. It definitely seems like a week all about loving one another.

I made this little wallhanging/table mat with a stylized feather heart, it is about 12" square. If you would like a chance at winning it just leave a comment on this post - telling me a bit about your self, or some RAK that you experienced, or tell me about someone you love, or special plans you have this week......

Some details about the piece - I used 100Wt Invisafil thread on top, 50Wt Aurifil in the bobbin, with a #80 Microtex needle for the free motion quilting (the fabric is a tightly woven, shiny cotton, that was difficult to stitch. The Microtex needle is very sharp, and worked well). The batting is one layer of cotton on the bottom with a half layer of wool on the top. The beads are #11 seed beads, I used size B Nymo thread for the first time, I like it - it was smooth and didn't kink, plus it comes in different colours (I bought it here). The piece of lace is from my sister.

Also I did most of the quilting and beading this weekend while Skypeing with some of my best friends - there is a group of 4 of us in different parts of the world that get together just about every weekend to quilt - such fun!

I have been wanting to have a giveaway for a while because I have past some blogging milestones - four years of blogging, over half a million views on my blog, and over 600 followers! I remember when I got my first follower - I was so excited! As it turned out, that was Wendy (Inky Threads), who has become one of my dearest friends - thanks Wendy!
So if you are a follower just leave me another comment for another chance to win.

BTW it was my twin bother and his wife's 23rd wedding anniversary yesterday - Happy Anniversary to them!

I'll make the draw on Friday the 15th of February. Thanks to all that entered! The winner was Karen (For the Love of Needle and Thread) - Congratulations!

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for making blogging such a joyful experience for me! Have a great day!!

What a beautiful piece, Joanne. Valentine's Day is very special to me because 50 years ago this Thursday I gave birth to my first son. I hope that you have a wonderful anniversary and wish you many, many more.

I can't believe you have done that so quickly Joanne - its beautiful. No need to tell you about me or mine - ...You know me well now :) Someone is going to be so lucky as you spread the love. You don't need to put me in the draw - though would love the piece. Our friendship is the most precious :)Love to you too, and happy Wedding Anniversary.

Wow Joanne, this wallhanging is so beautiful! A RAK happened to me when I broke my wrist the first part of December. I had two quilt tops ready to quilt for my little nieces. My sister in love stepped in and quilted them for me, in time for Christmas. Thanks for this lovely giveaway.

Congratulations for your 24th Anniversary, 4 years blogging and the huge number of views and followers. My husband and I just celebrated our 39th Anniversary on Ground Hog's Day.
You know that saying it's better to give than receive, well that is true. A RAK that is most memorable is where I gave a new pair of shoes to a 5th grader while I was the principle's secretary at his elementary school. I told him that they were my husbands but didn't fit right, and we couldn't exchange them, etc.... The child accepted them and wore them proudly for the duration of the school year. Made me smile from the inside and warmed my heart the rest of the year and many years to come.

What a gorgeous piece! I would love to win it. Tomorrow a long time co-worker who is also retired now is coming over to quilt! She just started quilting a few months ago and this is really special for me to have a good friend who is also quilting. I also did a special Valentine's Day post that will automatically post on the 14th.

Wow Joanne - it has turned out beautiful!!! You are one clever cookie and it's a very generous giveaway. Of course I would love to win in but is it ethical for a best friend to go into the draw???!!! RAK - a friend turned up on our doorstep with a standard rose for me, for Dad; and someone came and weeded my garden while I was away!!!

Happy Anniversary! Your heart piece is so lovely. I have a RAK to share: several years ago I was in a Michaels craft store and an elderly lady needed a certain color number of cross stitch beads. The store was out and she was asking the clerk if they could order more. Well, you know those corp. stores aren't the best at customer service. The clerk was saying something about "computer ordering/inventory." When she finished, I asked the lady what she needed and got her phone number. The next week I was going to a nearby city and they had the beads so I got them for her and we met later and I gave them to her.

Happy Anniversary! It's a lovely piece you made. I'll be spending V-day with my hubby and two kitties. We'll just cuddle in front of the TV like we often do, but it's one of the things I love and am happy to do it on Valentine's Day.

Wow is that amazing quilting - and I love how you incorporated the doily into the design! In addition to quilting, I adore rug hooking - it's always a hard decision for me on which to do with my free time!

Sandie @ crazy'boutquilts said...

What a gorgeous wallhanging! Your wedding anniversary is also the anniversary of the day my husband asked me to marry him, 3 years ago. He tricked me into thinking he was taking me out for an early Valentine's day dinner. When I went to place my napkin in my lap, a piece of parchment paper fell out. It was a note from him, asking if I would marry him. I was momentarily frozen in place by the shock and when I finally looked up at him, he was holding open a ring box. I did not see it coming!

Thanks for being the first to comment on my new blog, Joanne. You got me started on Romanian Point Lace with your wonderful tutorial, and I am truly grateful. ~ Susan

Wow, Joanne! This is such an exquisite piece! Can't believe you're going to part with it. I sure would treasure it, if I was lucky enough to win it. Thank you for the chance to win it and for sharing of your many talents with us!
I was the recipient of a RAK once when I was leaving a doctor's office. The parking lot had one of those toll booths where you had to drop in the coin to get the lever to go up and I dropped the coin and didn't have any more. I was so upset from seeing the doctor and then this happened. Well I had a long line of cars waiting behind me to get out and a wonderful lady came up and gave me a coin. It was a small act that meant the world to me at the moment.

You really are the most amazing talent. I can't tell you how much delight your blog offers me as I expand and examine all of your marvelous creations. I was a quilter before MS stole my legs and stamina out from under me. I take great pleasure in viewing the treasures you've created. Thank you for sharing them.

Your work is amazing my friend. You produce more items than I can believe. Just your completing so many items is inspiring. I so appreciate your RAK in doing art quilts with me. I once gave a scarf to an older woman because it was a perfect match to her hat. I think giving is so much more enjoyable!
Thank you for giving to all of us ... over four years! Thanks so much for everything!
